Oddly enough, the place in the Castle of Illusion, where the player confronts Mizrabel, is the Forbidden Mountain, Maleficent's home.This may either be by her choice or that taking on Maleficent's form may have influenced her. In the Castle of Illusion remake, her true form appears to be a combination of the Queen and Maleficent she wears a dress similar to that of the Queen's as well as a robe and a crown, but her face bears much greater resemblance to Maleficent's and has her skin color. In Power of Illusion, she is shown shapeshifting into various Disney villains before settling on taking the form of Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. In Castle of Illusion, Mizrabel notably bears some resemblance to the Evil Queen, both in her Queen form and in her Hag form. In that game, she was sent to Wasteland (due to her becoming a forgotten character, along with the Castle of Illusion game) and ended up kidnapping other still-popular characters so she could steal their hearts and escape from Wasteland. She later returned as the main antagonist of Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion. As a result, Mickey Mouse has to venture through her castle to rescue Minnie and save her from death. In the game's story, she kidnaps Minnie Mouse in an attempt to drain away her youth, beauty and life force as well as assume her physical shape. This is a weak link for a genre based on tight gameplay, and sad to see this important element take a backseat to updated graphics.Īll in all though, Castle of Illusion offers a good addition for the genre(albeit a short one) and is worth a playthrough, especially for old fans that want to see the changes.Witchcraft, dark magic, shapeshifting Source Mizrabel (a pun on "miserable") is the main antagonist of the video game Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse and its remake. The 2.5 platforming can cause some visual impairment while jumping, and overall Mickey feels a bit delayed and juttery in his movements. However, in its update, Castle of Illusion has lost a bit of what made it a great platformer: controls. Long time fans will find though, that many puzzles and level designs have changed up a bit to keep things fresh. Gameplay in Castle of Illusion is generally the same as it was in 1991. The remake of Castle of Illusion is brilliant in its look and design. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse was another one of those solid platforming titles that was initially released in 1991 and has been remade into a 2D / 3D title. Not only did these games capture superb graphics and animation, but they offered some really unique platforming challenges. If you can remember the 90s in video gaming, Disney was adept at handing out their licenses to some pretty good platforming titles ( Ducktails, Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers, Alladin, the list goes on).
